ABOUT ME

The Photographer

My name is Josh Uzzell and right now I'm a part time professional landscape and outdoor photographer. I got serious about photography when I was 16, I've always been drawn to taking pictures and even from a very early age taken every opportunity possible to be out taking pictures. When I was 16 I bough my very first DSLR and decided in that moment I wanted to 'go pro'.

My journey in photography started with landscapes and wildlife , photographing the area around me kept me happy for around a year until I decided that I wanted more from the photography than just capturing landscapes. At the age of 17 I transitioned in to portraiture and spent a year doing freelance portrait work.

In my short time as a portrait photographer I did family photos, studio portraiture, natural light, fashion and model shoots, event portraiture, engagements, and I even tried my hand at weddings. But after a year of this I found myself being drawn back in to the beauty of landscapes.

Now at the age of 18 I am moving back to landscapes. With all new gear, a greater knowledge of photography, and most importantly the ability to drive, I'll be  travel all over the UK and further. The images I take will be printed and sold to help fund traveling further to peruse my passion on a higher level.

The Gear

Camera Bodies:

Sony Alpha A7

For as long as I've been a photographer I've wanted a small and light camera that still packs a full frame sensor, I found this in Sony's mirrorless range of cameras. Since my first use of the Alpha I've never considered moving back to my old Nikon DSLR.

Lenses:

Sony 28-70mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS

The 28-70 lens is my main lens for landscapes. Its range has always suited my desired composition, the small minimum aperture of f/36 has come in handy on a number of occasions, and its optical stabilisation is useful if I'm forced in to a situation where I need to shoot hand held at lower shutter speeds. All this combined with its small and lightweight build has never left me desiring an upgrade.

Samyang 85mm f/1.4 AS IF USM

This is my bread and butter for portraiture, its f/1.4 aperture provides beautifully defocused backgrounds and I love working with the 85mm focal length. Even though it’s the bulkiest of my lenses and lacks any auto controls I still find myself using it over my other portraiture lens is most situations.

Sony 50mm f/1.8

This lens is my more general use lens, it gets used for a few portraits, mostly those that 85 is too tight for or I need auto focus. Mostly however it’s a travel lens, its small build, light weight, quick AF motor and reasonably bright 1.8 aperture makes it my go to for street, event and traveling.

Sigma 70-300mm F/4.5-5.6 AOP DG (Adapted)

This is a lens that I only use on occasion for some landscape and wildlife work, the quality of this lens is outstanding and the times I have used it it's never let me down.

The Locations

I live in the UK, this means that currently all of my work is done from within the country. Mostly I work in the south west area since this is my local area and their for easiest to travel to locations in. I do however often work outside of the area in further parts of the UK.

Currently all of my portraiture is done from within the Gloucestershire area, my wildlife work has only been done from within the south west of the UK and all of my landscape are in the UK. I hope at some stage to be able to travel further to more locations that are outside of the country to do landscape work.
